Fifteen months. That’s how long it took Vivienne Henderson, of Adelaide, Australia, to turn her life around. In her sixties, Vivienne is still kicking butt, all thanks to CrossFit.

What started as Vivienne going to a gym to get a membership for her husband, Graham, turned into something exceptional. Vivienne had a fused spine, so her whole backside was locked in place. She was told she couldn’t run, squat, do handstands.

“She ended up getting caught up in the gym and next thing you know, she’s doing CrossFit and a couple years later, she’s in her second CrossFit Games and she’s kicking ass,” says Graham, who fully supports his wife. “She feels good, she feels strong, she feels healthy… She’s got no limitations.”

Not even limitations from her back. “Since I’ve been doing the exercise, I haven’t had any trouble with my back at all. It’s just stronger than it was, a lot stronger,” says Vivienne.

Soon enough, working out at the gym wasn’t enough. Vivienne wanted to compete against her peers. Now she regularly competes, and she’s confident that she’s the fittest among her peers who are not doing CrossFit.

“It is very empowering,” says Vivenne. “It’s great to feel strong.”
