Smith Mountain: The Easy Mountain with a Stout Finish

Smith Mountain is an easy scenic hike above Azusa, with a really steep 1/4 mile finish at the end.

Becky and I wanted a short hike on a trail we had not done before. Smith Mountain seemed to fit the bill. It was a great local hike that took us about half a day.

Located north of Azusa, the hike follows a gentle incline for about two and a half miles until it reaches the Smith Saddle. From there the trail gains a little over a half mile, up a very steep class 2 trail to the summit. It was pretty warm that day and we were sweating hard by the time we made the summit. The views at the top were amazing.
