Coeur d’Alene, ID’s Ironman race is known to be a tough one. But Dexter Yeats was able to compete and finish the course as the oldest competitor in the race.

Yeats, 72, has completed 11 Ironman races. She says she didn’t feel at her best in Coeur d’Alene, and barely finished in time. But she was back at the gym shortly after, training for the next one. The next one happened to be in Cozumel, Mexico, where she shaved more than two hours off her Idaho time! After running, swimming, and biking, she ended the race with a time of 14:41:07.

Because of the Mexico race, she is now ranked number one in the world in the Ironman for her age group.

As one listens to her talk, her excitement and thrill for running competitively shines through. She is amazed by the opportunities she’s had to race, and she has plans to continue.

She states, “A lot of people are amazed. And then, of course, the issue comes up of my age. Yes, I’m 72, and I’m doing this! And to me, that’s amazing,”
