Meet Dale Sanders, The Oldest Man on the Appalachian Trail
On October 26, 2017, Dale Sanders, who you might recognize by his trail name of Grey Beard, became the oldest man to complete the entire Appalachian Trail in one calendar year. He was 82 years old.
His trail hiking and quest to hike the Appalachian Trail started in January 2017 in Georgia, on Springer Mountain. The trail took him through beautiful areas such as Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, and Mount Katahdin in Maine.
At 82, Dale Sanders himself hiked all 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Conservation advocates walked the last mile of the trail with him, and even had a ribbon ready for him to cut at the end.
