Meet Tao Porchon-Lynch, the 96-Year-Old Yoga Instructor
How many 96 year olds do you know who have “overwhelming” energy? If you take yoga in Westchester, New York, you might know one person. Tao Porchon-Lynch is 96, and is recognized as the world’s oldest yoga teacher by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Born at the end of WWI, in 1919, Porchon-Lynch has always held the belief that “if we spend our time just sitting there… it’s not going to help at all.” So she started moving. Porchon-Lynch regularly inspires people much younger than her.
According to one yoga student, “I feel actually she’s younger than me.”
When Porchon-Lynch turned 85, she decided yoga wasn’t enough. So she took up ballroom dancing as well. Despite having a hip replacement and suffering a broken wrist, Porchon-Lynch’s positive attitude keeps her going.
“She’s stunning and a diamond on the floor every time,” said someone familiar with her ballroom dancing. “Honestly, sometimes I can’t keep up with her anymore.”
Porchon-Lynch also has words of inspiration for anyone hoping to live a long and happy life: “Really and truly believe. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t say I’ll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes.”
