Meet Constance Tillet, the 77-Year-Old CrossFitter

At 77 years old, CrossFit was the first time Constance Tillet had ever worked out. Ten months later she had lost 50 pounds.

The odds were not in her favor, but Constance Tillet had the grit to do something extraordinary. “Get up and do it. Stop with the whining. Stop with, ‘You got to take care of me.’ Take care of yourself.” This is Tillet’s message to senior citizens. It’s the message she’s adopted for herself and she’s turned her life around in South Brooklyn’s CrossFit gym.

Just months before joining the gym, Tillet’s body was failing her, with multiple surgeries and a long history of health problems that resulted in her taking 60 pills for treatment. Then her son suggested CrossFit.

At 77 years old, CrossFit was the first time Tillet had ever worked out. Ten months later, she is down to a few pills a day and has lost 50 pounds. The gym owner, David Osorio, explains his theory on why Tillet has been able to succeed: “People have this perception that you have to be some really exceptional, physical, genetic person to come in and make tremendous progress like this, but it’s just about consistency.”

Along with her consistency in working out, Tillet has also become a life force in the CrossFit community. She fist bumps with everyone and lights up the room when she comes in. Osorio calls Tillet his adopted mother. Everyone at the gym went to Tillet’s late husband’s funeral when he passed away suddenly. It’s this kind of encouragement and her obvious progress that keep Tillet working hard.

“South Brooklyn CrossFit is my family, my children, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart.”
